A unique sailor’s needlework
worked in silk thread on linen – an original coat of arms quartered
with a mermaid, the Scottish lions and the English lion rampant, all
between the armorial bearings of the Royal lion and the unicorn together
with the Royal motto – the ship
above mounted with crown and cross. Probably this was all the lively
invention of the sailor who worked it.
